The UK’s first ever re-usable and leak-proof period wear brand WUKA has appointed PLAY as their retained PR and creative agency.
WUKA – which stands for Wake Up, Kick Ass – has hired the fledging agency to manage media relations, create meaningful news stories and devise bold campaign activations that smash taboos.
The ‘period pants’ brand was founded by environmental scientist and femtech innovator CEO Ruby Raut. Raut believes that periods should not cost the earth and places equality, social and environmental responsibility at the heart of the business.
The account will be led by Leigh-Anne Leonce, who has been promoted to become PLAY’s first Head of Client Services. Leonce joined PLAY in August 2020 and has led account work for Craft Gin Club, Invivo, Pioneer Pro Audio and Hoo.
Leonce commented: “WUKA is exactly the type of forward-thinking, barrier-breaking, brand which PLAY seeks out. Ruby and the team have created an extraordinary offering and we are hyped to take them through the next phase of their growth.”
WUKA’s Founder Ruby Raut added: “Our mission is to break period taboos and reach more women with our award-winning period pants and we are excited to work with PLAY to achieve these our goals in new and creative ways.”
Commenting on Leonce’s new role, PLAY’s Founder Rowan Adams: “Leigh-Anne is a phenomenal talent and this position is befitting of someone who has PR in their DNA. There is nothing nicer than knowing the person you need is someone from within the fold. Leonce will be responsible for the strategic oversight of PLAY’s retained work, measurement and analysis – as well as developing new business.”
Leonce added: “Our aim as an agency is to not go unnoticed, so keep watching out for us.”
PLAY launched in April 2020 and is nominated for New Consultancy of the Year at the PR Week Awards 2021.
